After a trip back to Paris, owner Karine Favre has created her own take on the art of teatime with friends and family inspired by her Parisian upbringing and the café’s romantic, neoclassic design. From the delicate, floral and polka dot-patterned, bone china to the elegant table setting and garden patio views in Midtown/Montrose, it is a wonderful intimate experience for all ages to socialize and commemorate special occasions.
Le Goûter is the French equivalent to British High Tea adults and kids take to cafes, tea houses or at home in the afternoon. Café Poetes Owner Karine Favre said, “It is not considered snacking, it is more like a refined, cultural experience to share with friends, family, coworkers or while alone. For the French, eating is always what brings people together.”
Designed to incorporate smaller portions of new dishes on the seasonal menu, the afternoon tea features an array of savory and sweet treats. To start, guests will enjoy a seasonal tomato and strawberry Gazpacho. Next, a combination of two different loose leaf teas arrives at the table in ceramic and stainless steel, double-walled, pastel and white tea pots by Bredemeijer which are accompanied by intricately dressed mini-choux pastries on silver, three-tiered, tea stands. They include the first tier of three mini-savory eclairs of mozzarella; salmon; and chicken and herbs; second tier of mini-quiches (Lorraine or Salmon Spinach) and madeleines; finished with the third-tier of two mini-sweet eclairs and one mini choux per person accompanied by a mini-meringue and a mini-shortbread.
Beverage service is accompanied by a glass of Café Poetes’ signature Champagne Kir Royal or Butterfly Lemonade.
